Connect to the Church

Baptisms

As United Methodists, we believe baptism brings new members into the fellowship of the church and marks the beginning of a process of growth toward God. It’s a symbol of new life and a promise of God’s saving love, and a sign of God’s forgiveness for our sins.

Water is the special symbol of baptism. We baptize infants, young persons or adults of any age who have not previously been baptized. Those seeking baptism for an infant promise to help the young person grow in faith through being a part of Christ’s church.

Coffee with the Pastor

A monthly chance to talk informally with one of our pastors and learn about the Cargill United Methodist Church. Offered after each Sunday worship service. Open to anyone. Check the calendar for the next date.

Columbarium

A Columbarium is a visible sign that our church cares for its members
and believes in life after death. It can be a source of personal and
emotional support for church members. It affirms our faith that those
who die in the Lord remain in communion not only with God, but also
with the living.

Health and Wellness Ministry

Looking Up: A Health and Wellness Ministry was initiated  by Briana Spors, RN and Kris Borgerding, OTR, long time members of Cargill. The mission of this ministry is to prevent and support our community through illness and injury through education and advocacy, empowering individuals with optimal physical emotional and spiritual health at all stages of life.

Mission Statement: To prevent illness and injury through education and advocacy, empowering our Cargill community with optimal physical, emotional and spiritual health at all stages of life.

Hospitality Ministries

When someone visits Cargill UMC for the first time, we hope they feel like a guest, not a visitor. We remember what it’s like to visit a church for the first time!

If you’re a guest, let us know how you felt welcomed, or if we could do better.

Music Ministries

Cargill UMC has a rich music tradition. Our current groups include the Wesley Chorale (choir), the Alleluia Ringers (bell choir), vocal and instrumental ensembles and soloists.

We’re also looking for musicians to support our newest expression of worship at 10:30 a.m. Sundays.

Nursery

We offer free child care in a supervised nursery during Sunday worship services for children up through age 4.

Extra health precautions and cleaning measures are in place. You may bring your child before the service begins or at any time during worship. Pagers are available.

Christian Learning Center

The Cargill Christian Learning Center was named the Best of the Best in the 2021 Janesville Gazette readers poll.

SCRIP Gift Cards Ministry

Use SCRIP gift cards for your daily expenses or as gifts, and support youth ministry! These SCRIP gift cards are the same gift cards you can purchase from your favorite retailer, restaurant, gas station, or grocery store. You pay face value for the gift card and the youth get an instant rebate based on the discount percentage offered by the retailer.

For example, Kwik Trip offers a 4% discount. If you spend $50 on gas per week and decide to purchase a $50 gift card through SCRIP, the youth receive $2. It’s a win-win for all! Stop by the church office or call to place your order.

Orders placed by the 4th Sunday of the month will be available the 1st Sunday of the next month.

The profits are used toward mission trips and mission projects! If you have questions, contact Pastor Amy Powell. The church office has Culver’s and Woodman’s cards in stock.

Senior Ministries

Cargill UMC does its best to cater to every age and generation. If you over the age of 50 and enjoy being social join our twice-monthly Senior Luncheon in Fellowship Hall and a monthly Senior Lunch Out. We also offer opportunities to serve and occasional musical or theater outings. Check the Events Calendar for details.

Weddings

Members and friends of Cargill UMC who wish to be united in Christian marriage may do so in 400-seat Sanctuary or the 70-seat chapel. In some instances, pastors of Cargill may officiate services for members and friends outside of the church building.
