Steve Scott

Pastor Steve Scott has been privileged to be lead pastor of Cargill UMC since July 2020. He began his career as a newspaper reporter and editor, having graduated in journalism from UW-Eau Claire. After more than two decades at the St. Paul Pioneer Press, he graduated from both Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary and United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities and pursued ordained ministry in the United Methodist Church. He served several congregations in northern Wisconsin and then in Milton, Wis., before moving to Janesville.

Because of his many years serving inside and outside of the church, he believes strongly that preaching should connect the Bible and daily life. He sees the church as a community of Christians meeting together for mutual encouragement, worshiping God and being equipped for faithful living.

Steve and his wife, the Rev. Ann Scott, also a United Methodist pastor, are grounded by family in Wisconsin and Illinois but also drawn to the mountains of Alberta and Colorado as favorite destinations. Although they share in ministry and travel, she is not equally enamored of his other love, baseball as played on the north side of Chicago.
