Current Serving Opportunities
Donations for School Supplies
Sometimes all it takes is a backpack full of supplies to impact the life of a child.
This year we are again partnering with Jackson Elementary School to stock them with school supplies for kids in need.
Please donate if you are able and on September 11th, as a church, we will pack the backpacks which will then be
delivered to the school.
Ongoing Serving Opportunities
On the third Saturday of each month, join Cargill UMC in offering a free community meal. Serving opportunities: cooking, set-up, serving and clean-up. Check the Events Calendar for details.

GIFTS Men’s Shelter
Jesus led by example. He showed us how to love and accept everyone by serving them. He asks us to do the same. This is why we support the “God Is Faithful Temporary Shelter” (GIFTS), a men’s shelter in Janesville. Serving opportunities include intake workers, overnight hosts, providing meals (breakfast or supper) and laundry.
Cargill is the host of GIFTS Men’s Shelter four times a year. Check the Events Calendar for details on our next opportunity to serve. For more information call Janice Delo – 608-359-8959
Fall and Winter are challenging times for filling volunteer slots. We rely on more individuals during this time than groups or churches to sign up. Check out our open spots and choose a time that works for you (please note that our overnight volunteers must complete an online application) We welcome pre-made meals that can be frozen (for 20 servings), meat that can be frozen, and non-perishable food items to help!

Meals on Wheels
We have a long history of volunteering with Meals on Wheels and we are proud to continue that relationship. We are thankful for all the volunteers in the past and urgently need additional new volunteers to help get meals to those who need it the most. Delivery takes less than an hour and can easily be done during a lunch break. We invite you to take part in such a well needed service in our community.
Check the Events Calendar for details on our next opportunity to serve. For more information call Marla Verdone – 608-758-9468.

Serve Your Church
Buildings and Grounds
There are 40 indoor spaces – each dedicated to people of all ages growing in faith. There are many opportunities to assist in caring for the physical resources that God has given us. Some of these include lawn mowing and
caring for the grounds. If you are interested in serving this ministry contact Val Schmoldt – [email protected]
Caring Ministries maintains a Care List of senior church members who are home-bound, hospitalized, and/or in need of medical treatment. We also send birthday greetings to those members 80 years of age and older and regularly telephone or visit members on the Care List. Before COVID, we also made daily hospital visits and organized Heritage Sunday to recognized 50-year+ members of Cargill. We hope to restart both of these programs 2022. If you are interested in serving this ministry contact Lynn Karges – [email protected].
We are always looking for teachers and shepherds to guide and nurture our children. If you enjoy working with children or have a background in teaching and would like to serve this ministry contact Pastor Amy Powell.
We are always looking for welcoming people to join our Hospitality Ministry. Below are a list of ways to serve:
• AV Projection
• Communion Server
• Fellowship Server
• Offering counter
• Sanctuary Preparation
• Welcome Desk Host
If you are interested in serving this ministry contact Pastor Steve Scott – [email protected]
We have groups specifically for youth 6th through 8th grade and from 9th through 12th grade. They are designed to help young people understand their faith through the lens of real-life experience.
We also offer a youth faith-formation class called Confirmation, which begins November 13, 2022. Adults are also welcome. For more information about Confirmation Class, contact Pastor Amy Powell.
