This meeting is for two purposes:
- To conduct the regular annual meeting of the Church Conference.
- To approve an official merger of Cargill and Janesville’s Mount Zion UMC.
Members of Mount Zion, which held its final worship service in August, voted unanimously to join Cargill as members effective Sept. 1. The vote on Oct. 22 is required to officially merge the property and assets of the congregations. Cargill will then prayerfully discern the best use or sale of the property for the benefit of the community. Those plans will be made over the next several months.
Bishop Dan Schwerin and South West District Superintendent Stein have given preliminary approval of the merger. The formal Church Conference vote is required by the rules of The United Methodist Church.
All members of Cargill UMC are eligible to vote.
UMC guidelines do not allow for absentee voting.
